Time Capsule Part I
October 24, 2026
A time capsule is something that I have definitely heard people talk about, but not something I have thought to implement in my life. However, after thinking about my objects and what I would like for people to find in my time capsule, the thought of creating one has become incredibly appealing. I struggled with choosing only four objects but after much deliberation, I decided to choose objects that holisticaly encapsulated me as a person. I am 26 years old, living in a city, working and going to grad school, and still learning about myself. I am trying to have fun with my life and all that it has given me, while staying true to my roots and continuing exploring life and all that it has to offer.
My plan is to create a time capsule with four boxes inside. The top of the box will start with the whimsical and fun objects and the deeper the viewer will go, they will find objects that are close to my heart and identity.
Blind Box Figures
In the first layer of my time capsule I would put in my figures from my blind boxes. I think this would be cool find for anyone that opens my time capsule. Since this is the first layer, I wanted to add in something fun and whimsical for the person to understand who I am. I love little trinkets ever since I was a kid, and I am also unserious, so things like these bring me lots of joy. The blind box characters also symbolize my life and interests. The girl figure is depicted wearing a suit, which coincides my current life stage of working in an office. The piggy on the left is laying in a pizza bed, and currently pizza has been my favorite food. The cute piggy on the right is holding a cat figure, which is my favorite animal!
Photos of Friends
This is a cute photo with my friends that we took at a photobooth in the East Village. My friends were visiting me for one of their birthday’s and we spent the day being touristy and exploring the city. I would want anyone who comes across my time capsule to know that I was just a girl in my 20’s, enjoying life and having fun. Of course, some friends and family photos are missing, but I think this photo captures the overall vibe of my current life stage.
One of my
Favorite Books
The deeper we go into the time capsule, you can see who I am more on the inside. I am someone who loves to read, especially literary fiction. I struggled with finding just one book to put in the capsule, and I feel like I would want to be remembered by this book. James Baldwin’s writing is just incredible and the subject matter of this story is one that many people can relate or resonate with. Baldwin himself is an impactful American author and this book has taught me the art of beautiful writing. Although I enjoy keeping things light and fun, I recognize the importance of keeping on the legacy of societal commentary that deals with race, lgbtq+ identity, and politics.
Cultural & Religious
Necklace
On the last box in my time capsule, I will put in my necklace. Although it may looks small and simple, it heavily represents my culture and religion. I was born in Tuva, a small republic in Russia, and left when I was only three years old. Although I was so young when I left, I have always carried a piece of my culture and religion everywhere I went. The older I become, the more I resonate with my culture and I would like for those who open my capsule to also know where I am from. This necklace was sent over by my aunt just a few months ago (because I lost my previous one) and it is a never ending knot symbol from Tibetan Buddhism. Although this is a Buddhist symbol, it is syonymouse with Tuvan people because our traditional clothing, jewelry, and art are all adorned with this knot.
